Mustang Adds 550Z to Compact Excavator Line
Mustang's line of compact excavators now includes the new 550Z, a 5.5 metric ton machine with a 47.6 hp Yanmar Tier 4 certified, turbocharged diesel. The machine also includes upgrades for operator comfort and control.
The engine features an electronic throttle for precise control, plus ECO mode and auto deceleration features. ECO mode, controlled by a switch inside the cab, will reduce engine speed by 10% without sacrificing power, the company says. Auto deceleration decreases engine speed to idle after four seconds with no hydraulic movement. The two systems can result in 20% less fuel consumption.
Digging depth is 12-ft. 9.5-in., bucket breakout force 9,419 lbs. The machine is 6-ft. 6.3-in. wide, allowing access to relatively tight job sites.
Controls include a proportional auxiliary hydraulic rocker switch to allow the operator to adjust hydraulic flow for optimal attachment performance. The operator can easily select standard ISO or an optional backhoe control pattern with a mechanical lever. A boom offset swing of 68 degrees in both directions allows for digging a square hole without repositioning the machine. An integrated digital display located in a highly-visible area features recordable maintenance history with adjustable time intervals and reminders. The display unit also records hours used for the past 90 days and can be monitored without starting the engine.
