12,000-pound capacity telehandler

Linamar Corporation’s Skyjack division unveils the SJ1256 TH telehandler.

Skyack SJ1256 THThe Tier-IV final compliant machine brings Skyjack’s class-leading load chart performance to the 12,000-lb lifting capacity market and will be available for purchase in the second quarter of 2017.

“The SJ1256 TH is based heavily on our class-leading SJ1056 TH,” says Barry Greenaway, senior product manager, Skyjack. “Most telehandlers in the 12K category lift 12,000 pounds to just over 20 feet. The SJ1256 TH can lift 12,000 pounds to 35 feet.

Another outstanding feature, is that it can lift 1,000 pounds at maximum forward reach of 42.6 feet without deploying outriggers, where most similar machines can only lift up to 500 pounds, or even no load at all, in the same circumstance.”

Ideal for heavier-duty applications, the SJ1256 TH features 12,000-pound maximum lift capacity, 56.3 feet maximum lift height, 6,000 pounds lift capacity at maximum lift height without deploying outriggers and 7,000 pounds lift capacity at maximum lift height with outriggers deployed, 42.6 feet maximum forward reach and a Tier-IV final 107 hp. Deutz TCD3.6L engine that uses diesel exhaust fluid but requires no regeneration.

“By introducing the SJ1256 TH, we can now supply telehandlers to operators and rental branches that cater to heavier duty applications, such as the energy sector,” Greenaway said. “We want to be able to service those sectors as part of our pursuit of becoming a full-line manufacturer and supplier of mobile elevating work platforms and telehandlers.”

The SJ1256 TH retains all the unique Skyjack features that made the SJ1056 TH a success, including:
• SKYCODED control system
• FLEXCAB easy cab conversion system
• READYHOOK yoke-mounted rigging hook for effecting handling of suspended load
• Shares same control systems, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic layout with the TH range, ensuring instant familiarization for operators of other TH units

Based on customer feedback to the TH series, Skyjack made several changes to the SJ1256 TH including integrating a heavy duty cab door so there’s less chance of customer damage and offering hybrid hard surface/grip lug style tires as standard to provide significantly longer wear life and to help customers reduce operating costs. These improvements were also rolled out to the rest of the TH range with no increase to acquisition costs.

“When we launched the new TH-series, we knew we wanted to address the fact that Skyjack doesn’t play in the 12,000-lb lifting capacity market; one of the biggest value segments in the telehandler market,” Greenaway said. “We built the SJ1056 TH to be easy to expand into the 12K market and the new SJ1256 TH shares 70% commonality of parts, as well as the layout and easy maintenance features with the TH series that our customers love.”
