Welcome editorial: Stay flexible

As our summer rolls into fall, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that the status quo just isn’t going to cut it anymore. We’ve survived a summer where nearly every event has been cancelled due to coronavirus concerns and incredible storms have literally changed the landscape in several areas of the country.
Rental centers are reporting blips in their businesses; some in a very good way, while others have been devastated. In times like these, it’s a good idea to find ways to increase your flexibility to better roll with changing market demands.
That became very apparent to me as I interviewed Tom Saxelby and Keith Serbin at USM ReRents. This company specializes in getting equipment in the hands of rental centers that need specialized equipment to fill customer orders. In effect, it helps rental centers be more flexible in filling customer requests without breaking their CAPEX budgets to acquire some specialized – and expensive – equipment. I hope you enjoy reading about USM ReRents in our Rental Center story this issue. Re-rental is a great way to be flexible without committing long-term funds to equipment that would otherwise be out of your wheelhouse.
Along those same lines, renters are increasingly looking for more specialized equipment to do jobs that can be very labor-intensive. Equipment engineers are getting quite façile at developing add-on attachments that help contractors complete tough-to-do jobs.
This issue, we’ve highlighted several new equipment attachments that can add versatility and flexibility to a rental fleet. Similarly, these attachments can often be rented at a premium because of the value they offer, making their ROI very attractive and further helps position your business as the go-to place for solving challenges.
