The spider lift’s versatility is getting noticed by contractors of all types and replacing more than just the traditional booms and scaffolding.
Falcon Lifts A/S, the inventor and the oldest manufacturer of spider lifts in the world, is introducing a newly developed product range of five spider lift models with working heights from 44 to 88 feet in April 2021. This new range of smaller lifts is named Falcon Sigma due to the resemblance of their unique boom design and the Greek letter Σ (Sigma).
The Falcon Sigma product range complements the existing, world-renowned Falcon Lifts models, thus offering a complete product portfolio of spider lifts with working heights from 44 to 170 feet for indoor and outdoor jobs.
“When we call on prospective customers, it is obvious everyone respects the Falcon brand for its quality and exceptional engineering, but we have experienced the same question on many of our sales calls: ‘Does Falcon offer a smaller lift in the 40 to 80-foot range?’” says Matt Kline, CFO of USM ReRents, Falcon Lifts’ exclusive representative for the United States and Canada. “We are excited to offer this important and new product range of Falcon spider lifts to our customers.”
Demand for unique Falcon quality
With a continuous focus on product development and a constant dialogue with long-term customers across the globe, Falcon Lifts acknowledges the need for smaller spider lifts that feature the same Falcon quality with ground-breaking features that are only found on larger, more expensive spider lift models. The Falcon Sigma range of spider lifts are track-mounted and available in hybrid or all-electric lithium battery-powered versions.
Light in weight
The Falcon Sigma spider lifts are light in weight. For instance, the Falcon FS 170 has a working height of 170 feet but weighs half as much as the JLG 1850SJ, which is the only JLG boom lift that can reach 170-foot working height.
The light weight of the spider lift allows users to work indoors without worrying about cracking marble or tile floors. Spider lifts are much easier to maneuver than a traditional boom lift and are much more efficient than scaffolding, so users can get their jobs done much faster.
“We had a customer in Texas take one unit into a gymnasium where they typically utilized scaffolding, which takes days to put up and take down. They were able to get the whole project done in less than a day and were able to avoid the cost of putting up the scaffolding and shutting the building down for days,” adds Kline.
Fits through a door
The main advantage of a spider lift is its ability to access places that traditional booms cannot. The Falcon FS170, which can reach a working height of 170 feet, can compress to a width of nearly 4 feet and a height of under 7 feet. This allows it to fit through a standard single door for any indoor job. The Falcon FS44 Sigma lift can pass through a door opening 31 inches wide and 78 inches high.
Climbs stairs
The double crawler undercarriage of the Falcon FS 121/138 allows the unit to climb a 37 percent grade while in transport position. It allows the machine to safely climb stairs, maneuver turns and pass through a 36-inch x 78-inch door opening.
The tracked system and grade- climbing ability also makes the spider lift versatile enough to work outdoors. The spider lift has been quickly adopted by tree care professionals and arborists as a safer alternative to climbing trees.
For hard-to-reach jobs
The largest Falcon spider lift in the USM ReRents fleet has a working height of up to 170 feet and a double-jib system that offers a 200-degree reach. The double-jib system can be hydraulically telescoped nearly 20 feet; this allows workers to reach the up-and-over or underneath jobs that would be extremely difficult to get to with any other machine or scaffolding. With independently controlled outriggers, operator can safely set up the spider lift in limited spaces.
USM ReRents currently has 40 Spiders/Atrium Lifts/Compact Crawlers in its re-rental fleet, ranging in sizes from 43 to 170 feet. USM ReRents also has Teupen and JLG models in its re-rental fleet.
