Business as unusual in 2021

The promise of a new year brings pause and some cause for reflection for me. I think most of us will remember that 2020 is a year we’d like to have a do-over.

In spite of the pandemic, serious weather threats and increasingly divided and misguided government officials, there are so rays of hope, especially for those us in the equipment rental business.

Business owners are wising up to the fact that they can improve their bottom lines by paying for the use of equipment to help them get their jobs done. With rented equipment, the hassles and expense of maintenance disappear as well as the logistics of transporting and storing equipment. It’s a great way to simplify accounting and spread out the bumps of capital purchasing.

This bodes well for equipment rental centers, but it’s also a good time to think more strategically about where your business is heading. With the waves of Li-ion and other alternative fuel-powered equipment becoming available, now is the time to learn about this technology and how it may transform your business. Once this equipment proves itself in the field, I think there will be tremendous demand for models that are emissions-free, simpler and require less maintenance.

In fact, our Industry Outlook covers some of the angles on the growing next generation of power. I don’t think diesel or gasoline powered engines have met their match just yet, but 20 years ago, it was hard to believe that 110-volt power would be replaced by Li-ion battery technology.

Wishing you and yours a very happy and prosperous 2021!
