Solar Technologies Supports Work Zone Awareness

In 2014, there were 26 fatalities in work zones on Pennsylvania roads. From 2003 thru 2010, there were 962 worker fatalities in construction sites on the nation’s highways. To honor highway workers, Solar Technology, a manufacturer of traffic safety signs located in Allentown, PA, is donating $1000 to the American Traffic Safety Services Association’s Foundation to fund scholarships for children of highway workers killed in work zones.

solar technologies April 11 to 15 is National Work Zone Awareness Week. SolarTech salutes highway workers and construction crews, and everyone involved in traffic safety.  They are proud to supply crucial traffic safety equipment that helps save lives – both workers and drivers.  SolarTech’s flashing Arrow Signs redirect traffic, and their changeable Message Boards provide advanced warning messages to keep everyone safe.

The Federal Highway Administration sponsors the National Work Zone Awareness program at the start of each construction season to encourage motorists to be constantly alert and prepared for dynamic changes in and around work zones. This year's theme, "Don't Be That Driver!" reinforces the message that motorists should use extra caution in work zones.

Driver-related factors that affect work zone crashes include speeding (a factor in 23% of the fatalities), distractions (such as cell phones, texting, and radios), inattentive driving, and aggressive driving. The most common work zone crash is a rear-end collision.
