Used Equipment Prices Continue Decline

Driven primarily by weaker recoveries in auction transactions, used equipment prices reflected by the Rouse Value Index for January slipped to 43.9, down 0.7% from December. Though the ninth consecutive month of lower prices, the Value Index remains 1.3 percent above the April 2007 peak and 47.8 percent higher than the June 2009 trough. 


The Value Index measures Orderly Liquidation Values key models and categories, with the index continuing to show softness in the used equipment market. You can download a pdf of the February Rouse Rental Report here

Auction values also dipped, averaging 7.6 percent less than December's Forced Liquidation Values measure by Rouse, though there's seasonally less volume of auctioned equipment to track. The Report also states that small to mid-sized earth moving machines, telehandlers and AWP more typically found in North American rental fleets fared better, dropping only 4.4 percent below December. Mining equipment and large earth moving equipment showed a greater drop.
