2018 ARA scholarship program

The ARA Foundation of the American Rental Association and its affiliate programs are offering 54 scholarships worth a total of $100,000 for the 2018-2019 school year.


The deadline to apply is March 5, 2018

The following scholarships will be offered for the 2017-2018 school year:

Leonard Hawk Founders Scholarship
One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to the top applicant. This scholarship is named after one of the founders and first president of the American Rental Association.

ARA Insurance Scholarship
One $3,500 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who works for an ARA Insurance-covered business or is an immediate family member of the business owner. Additional criteria for applying are the same as for the ARA Foundation scholarships.

Undergraduate Scholarships
Ten $3,500 scholarships will be awarded to applicants pursuing their associate's or bachelor's degree.

Graduate Scholarships
Two $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to applicants pursuing their master's degree.

Trade/Technical/Vocational Scholarships
Ten $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to students pursing a certification or degree through a trade/technical/vocational program. 

Affiliate Scholarships

The ARA Foundation also administers scholarships for several affiliated organizations. Applicants who apply for an ARA Foundation scholarship and meet the qualifications also will be considered for an affiliate scholarship. A separate application is not required, and eligibility requirements are the same as for the ARA Foundation scholarships.

ARA of Alabama
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant associated with a rental operation based in Alabama.

ARA of California
Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to applicants associated with a rental operation based in California.

ARA of Florida
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to applicants associated with a rental operation based in Florida.

ARA of Illinois
Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to applicants associated with a rental operation based in Illinois.

ARA of Michigan
Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to applicants associated with a rental operation based in Michigan that has been a member of the ARA of Michigan for at least two years.

ARA of New York
Two $1,250 scholarships will be awarded to applicants associated with a rental operation based in New York.

ARA of North Carolina
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant associated with a rental operation based in North Carolina that has been a member of the ARA of North Carolina for at least two years.

ARA of Ohio
Six $750 scholarships will be awarded to applicants who are associated with a rental operation based in Ohio that has been a member of the ARA of Ohio for the last two consecutive years. The applicant also must be a member in good standing by being a member of the business owner's family or a current employee (including owners and managers) with at least two years’ experience.

ARA of Tennessee
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant associated with a rental operation based in Tennessee.

ARA Region 10/Dorothy Wellnitz Scholarship - Canada
One US$1,500 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant associated with a rental operation based in Canada. This scholarship has been offered since 2007 and is named for Dorothy Wellnitz, former executive director of the Canadian Rental Association.

ARA Region 10/Doug Mitchell Scholarship - Canada
One US$1,500 scholarship will be awarded to an applicant associated with a member based in Canada that is a manufacturer/supplier.

This scholarship was created in memory of Doug Mitchell, past president of the Canadian Rental Association and an active volunteer in CRA, CRA Saskatchewan and ARA. It is preferred for a student affiliated with a manufacturer/supplier due to Mitchell's instrumental role in organizing the yearly CRA Prairie Trade Show.

ARA Region Two/Ron Marshall Scholarships
ARA Region Two offers two $750 Ron Marshall Scholarships just for students within the region — one to a student attending a trade, technical or vocational school, and one to a student attending a college or university.

Ron Marshall was the owner of Reading Rentals in Reading, Pa., until his death in Oct. 1995. He was active in the Keystone Rental Association and ARA's Region Two, which consists of Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Texas Rental Association
Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to applicants associated with a rental operation based in Texas.

Texas Rental Association/Bill Loomer Houston Area Rental Association Scholarship
The Bill Loomer Houston Area Rental Association scholarship of $2,000 is the Texas Rental Association's (TRA) highest scholarship award for a student associated with a rental operation based in Texas. The criteria for applying are the same as for the ARA Foundation scholarships.

Bill Loomer Jr. was the owner of Clear Creek Equipment in Webster, Texas. He was very active in the Texas Rental Association, including serving as president, and also was an ARA volunteer. He passed away in March 2006.
