Our featured rental center is bit different than your run-of-the-mill operation. Instead of an equipment line that is a mile wide and a few feet deep, George Lonergan’s rental fleet is primarily made up of street sweepers and a short list of related street-repair equipment as well as some remote-controlled mowing equipment for steep slope work. His customer base is mainly municipalities, airport authorities and other government-related contractors whose business is to keep our infrastructures tidy and maintained.

From George’s youth, he had in interest in street sweepers. Over the years, he’s found these complex mobile scrubbers to be fascinating, and through his father’s equipment business, a good way to branch off from a family steeped in off-highway equipment sales and service.

His passion for this type of equipment took him throughout upstate New York early in his career, and he needed that passion, because the caliber of equipment that he was representing was a new concept for municipalities, many of which were staffed with don’t-rock-the-boat types of personnel. After all, this type of equipment can climb easily into the six-figure range and unless they can see the ROI, they aren’t interested.

That’s where the rental solution comes in. Municipalities, especially smaller ones, can take advantage of the latest street-sweeping technology without the high overhead. We’re seeing that increasingly as construction and maintenance equipment increases in technology, capabilities and cost. George has identified that market need and is capitalizing on it.
