Hybrid-powered boom lift
The Genie Z-60/37FE 4WD boom lift is powered by a new hybrid fuel-electric system. The new model from Terex AWP offers operators two machines in one package for indoor and outdoor applications while providing lower cost of operation and cleaner performance. Driven by high-efficiency AC motors, it combines the benefits of advanced diesel power, four-wheel drive performance and the cleaner, quieter efficiency of compact, low-weight electric-powered booms. It can operate in full-electric mode for full-day, emissions-free performance on a single charge, or hybrid mode, which provides more than a week of run time on one tank of diesel fuel. In hybrid mode, the 24-horsepower Tier 4/Stage IIIB final engine-powered generator maintains or supplements the battery and automatically shuts off. It offers 66 feet of working height, 36 feet 7 inches of horizontal outreach and 24 feet 3 inches of up-and-over clearance. It has a standard 5-foot jib that offers 70 degrees of up and 65 degrees of down range of motion and 160 degrees of platform rotation.

Coming boom lift models
In mid-2018, Snorkel will release its 400S and 460SJ mid-size telescopic boom lifts. The 400S delivers a working height of up to 46 feet and an outreach of 35 feet; the 60SJ offers a working height of 52 feet and outreach of up to 42 feet and is equipped with 6-foot 6-inch jib boom for additional flexibility. The units deliver up to 50 percent gradeability with powerful four-wheel drive. They have an 8-foot x 3-foot tri-entry platform and have proportional boom functions, including jib and platform rotate. The units use a common chassis that helps improve service engineer expertise and minimize spare parts inventory. The jib booms on the Snorkel 460SJ and 660SJ models articulate from -65 to +70 degrees for a full 135-degree working range. They come standard with the Snorkel Guard secondary guarding and a five-year structural warranty, plus a two-year warranty for parts and labor.

All-terrain articulating boom lift
The Haulotte HA80 articulating boom lift features the Activ’Lighting System that illuminates controls and areas around the boom for better visibility while loading and unloading the unit. It is also equipped with Activ’Shield Bar 2.0 that helps protect workers from crushing risks. It offers a working height of 86 feet 1 inch; an up-and-over clearance of 30 feet 6 inches and 57 feet 5 inches of horizontal outreach and a 550/770-pound dual-load capacity option. The all-terrain unit has an oscillating axle, hydraulic differential wheel lock, high ground clearance; a smaller turning radius and well-dimensioned frame with gradeability up to 45 percent. The Stop Emission system reduces engine and peripheral component run time by up to 20 percent, which can extend engine and component life and maintain higher residual value. It can be easily outfitted with the telematics system of the owner’s choice.

Two new boom lift models
JLG Industries, Inc. has redesigned its 600 series boom lifts. The 600S and 660SJ offer class-leading platform capacity, JLG Industries sources report. The 600S has an unrestricted capacity of 600 pounds, and restricted capacity of 1,000 pounds. The unrestricted capacity of the 660SJ is 750 pounds and restricted capacity of 550 pounds. Lift speeds are faster and, with a properly equipped truck, two of these units can be moved at one time without an overweight permit. The models include the JLG SkyGuard enhanced control panel protection that stops all functions and temporarily reverses the unit to reduce the possibility of crushing workers.

Manitou work platforms come to North America
Manitou adds mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs) in North America featuring the AETJ 43 and AETJ 49 electric models and the ATJ 46, ATJ 46+ and Man’Go 33 diesel models. Changes include electrical system modifications, basket swing door and Tier 4 engines in the diesel units. The new ATJ 46 features reduced total cost of ownership, including an auto start/stop system and a platform height of 45 feet 11 inches and an up-and-over reach of 27 feet 3 inches at a height of 24 feet 2 inches. It has a 500-pound platform capacity; the ATJ 46+ can handle up to 900 pounds without restriction and has slightly longer higher reach than the ATJ46.
Manitou offers the diesel Man’Go 33 that is compact, lightweight, easy to use and maintain. At just 5 feet 10 inches wide and 9,150 pounds, it is the smallest and lightest machine in its category. The platform holds 500 pounds and reaches up to 32 feet 6 inches.
The electric AETJ 49 is only 5 feet 9 inches wide but can reach up to 48 feet 11 inches vertically and 30 feet 11 inches horizontally. The Manitou AETJ 43 is smaller, with an overall width of 4 feet 11 inches, platform height of 42 feet 7 inches and horizontal reach of 24 feet 11 inches.

Better platform height; up-and-over clearance
Skyjack offers the SJ85 AJ articulating boom that features a class-leading working height of 91 feet, horizontal outreach of 56 feet and a superior up-and-over clearance of 34 feet. It has Skyjack’s Skyriser design that offers true vertical rise without riser drifting. It also features the Speedyreach riser that can lower the fly boom from top height to ground level in as little as 60 seconds. It has dual-platform capacities of 750/500 pounds and a two- or three-person rating. The open center-knuckle design helps reduce stowed dimensions and reduces tail swing. It also has 360-degree continuous turret rotation and an Axldrive drive system for rough-terrain traction.

Compact boom lift
The latest addition to the Teupen LEO Series boom lift line is the TL72A compact lift that has a working height of 78 feet, side reach of 39 feet and 551-pound basket capacity, yet can fit through a standard commercial double doorway. It has a fully hydraulic automatic leveling system and outrigger setup monitoring with a convenient wireless remote. It can be powered by a diesel engine or as a battery unit.

Atrium lift boom
The Easy Lift 87-48AJ compact atrium lift from UpEquip is just 35 inches wide, 79 inches high and 21.5 feet long. It offers 87 feet working height and 48 feet of outreach with a 265-pound platform capacity. The unit weighs 8,250 pounds and comes standard with an extendable hydraulic track carriage. The unit is self-leveling and offers 14 inches of ground clearance.

360-degree rotating boom lift
MEC introduces the 45-AJ 45-foot articulated boom lift with a 48-horsepower Kubota diesel engine. It is the only machine in its class with 360-degree continuous rotation. It features solid rough-terrain tires, 6-foot wide three-sided entry platform with swing gate, four-wheel drive and oscillating front axle.
