Point of Rental Software Integrates with Xero Online Accounting Software

Point of Rental Software announced the integration of its rental management software products with Xero, a global leader in cloud-based accounting software. JCB Hosts 5th Annual "MudFest"

The JCB Mud Run celebrated its fifth year last month, with participants running a traditional five-mile course or shorter 5K distance, and running solo or as a team. MudFest benefits The Lady Bamford Center for Early Childhood Development. Operated by Wesley Community Centers of Savannah, the center provides education and social skills development to children from six weeks to four years of age.

May Construction Starts Rise 5 Percent

New construction starts jumped 5 percent in May over April, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. A $3.8 billion oil pipeline in the upper Midwest and seven power plant projects with a combined cost of $4.3 billion - the public works and electric utility sector - drove much of the growth.

Architectural Billings Index Highest in Almost a Year

Generally viewed as a leading indicator for construction, the U.S. Architectural Billings Index reached its highest level in almost a year, reports The Architects Newspaper. After a rough start to the year, now steered by the multi-family housing market, billings are supported by steady demand from commercial and retail property sectors.

New Home Sales Dip in May

Sales of new single-family houses dipped 6 percent below April's pace, now at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 551,000, according to Census Bureau and Housing and Urban Development data. Compared to May 2015, this year's sales are up 8.7 percent.

Builder Confidence Edges Up

Hitting its highest reading since January, builder confidence in the market for newly constructed single-family homes rose two points in June. This puts the level at 60 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI). 

Housing Starts, Permits "Relatively Flat"

The nation's housing starts were virtually unchanged in May, down 0.3 percent, according to newly released data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Commerce Department. Permits increased 0.7 percent. This puts starts at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.16 million and permits at 1.14 million. 

Growing Labor Shortage for Construction?

Though year-over-year data show 39 states adding construction jobs, only 19 states added construction workers between April and May of this year, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America. The AGC says monthly construction employment levels declined in most states because companies appear to be running out of workers to hire.

Takeuchi Names Western Regional Business Manager

Takeuchi-US has transitioned Hampton Wideman to the position of western regional business manager, effective June 1. For the past two years, Wideman was the southwest regional business manager.

Deere Dozers Win Design Award

John Deere 850K and 1050K Crawler Dozers impressed independent design specialists from 41 countries, and took home the 2016 Red Dot Award – one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design accolades. In collaboration with BMW Group subsidiary Designworks, John Deere developed an industrial design language on the 850K and 1050K that delivered a consistent aesthetic to the entire dozer family. 

Dodge Momentum Index Moved Higher in May

The Dodge Momentum Index rose 2.4 percent in May to 119.4 from its revised April reading of 116.6. The Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year.

Deutz, Gwinnet Tech Partner to Produce Tomorrow's Diesel Techs

Deutz and Gwinnett Technical College, Lawrenceville, Georgia, are helping students in the College’s Heavy Diesel Service Technician program prepare for their careers. As part of its Technical Education Partnership, Deutz has donated seven diesel engines to the program, giving students hands-on experience with modern technology. 

JCB Sets Equipment Shipment Record

JCB received a record 400 machines worth more than $35 million shipped from the U.K. to the Georgia Ports Authority the end of May. The company will inspect and configure the machines to customer specifications at its North American headquarters in Savannah, before shipping the units to its distributors

Owners of Durante Rentals Win SBA Award

John Durante, Chris Jones and Anthony Durante, founders and owners of Durante Rentals, were named the 2016 SBA New York District Office Small Business Person(s) of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA). The award was presented in conjunction with 2016 National Business Week at a ceremony held in New York City.

New Toro Dealer in Florida

Florida-based Southern Drill Supply will now offer a full line of Toro underground equipment, including directional drills, trenchers, vibratory plows, compact utility loaders and attachments, compactors, rammers and trench rollers, Toro announced. Southern Drill Supply primarily serves the utility construction market in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. 

JLG Adds Service Branch

JLG has opened a Northeast service center in Hagerstown, Maryland to address customer needs in the area and to support JLG’s drive to increase service and support. The 11,200-square foot, six bay facility joins existing JLG service branches in Houston, Texas, and Riverside, California.

Hyundai Construction Equipment Adds Four Dealers

Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas has expanded its North American dealer ranks, adding three dealers in the United States and one in Canada. The company now has 71 dealerships operating in more than 125 locations.

Auction Results Soft, Used Equipment Values Slip

The April Rouse Value Index for used equipment prices dipped 0.4%, to 43.2, from March, the twelfth consecutive month of decline. April auction sales also dropped, according to the Rouse Rental Report, averaging 9.3% lower than the previous month.
