Construction Employment Continues to Climb
In the past year, 44 states and the District of Columbia added construction jobs, according to analysis of Labor Department data by the Associated General Contractors of America. The AGC also pointed out that construction employment increased in 28 states between February and March.
Sales of Newly-Built Home Sales Dip Slightly
Sales of newly built, single-family homes slipped 1.5 percent in March, off from the upwardly-revised February numbers. This puts new home sales at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 511,000 units, according to newly released data by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau.
Home Construction Slides in March
Housing starts dropped 8.8 percent in March and permits slid 7.7 percent for the month, according to the Commerce Department. Construction of new homes fell in March by the largest amount in five months, with weakness in all regions of the country except the Northeast.
